NEW TEST FOR BREAST CANCER

Sandy Berger
A new test for breast cancer is now being used in addition to mammography. This is especially important for women with dense breast tissue or a family history of breast cancer.
Mammography has long been the standard for detecting breast cancer in its early stages, however dense breast tissue can make tumors difficult to find. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, women with dense breast tissue are five times more likely to develop breast cancer.

Now a new type of ultrasound treatment, the Acuson S2000 Automated Breast Volume Scanner (ABVS), may help find what traditional mammography misses. In fact, a study published in 2008 found that adding a screening ultrasound examination to routine mammography revealed 28 percent more cancers than mammography alone. Recently FDA approved, ABVS is the world's first multi-use automated breast volume ultrasound system.
This diagnostic tool provides a three dimensional view of the breast, allowing physicians to analyze the breast from front to back, top to bottom, and side to side; detecting even a small beginning of cancer. The system is also more comfortable for the patient because it's non claustrophobic and radiation free

  2. What is the difference of Acuson S2000 Automated Breast Volume Scanner (ABVS) to mammography? Is it more effective and more budget friendly for women like us? Can it detect how much nutrients do a person needs in his or her diet having a breast caner detection? According to what I've read from an article about zinc deficiency that a women that have a weak immune system is more like are those who are prone to diseases like breast cancer.

  3. Breast ultrasound is a commonly accepted and reliable diagnostic method for women with clinically or radiologically suspicious breast lesions. Although it is not established as a routine part of screening programs, bilateral whole breast ultrasound has even demonstrated diagnostic advantages in screening asymptomatic women. Breast ultrasound has been performed for more than 50 years. Conventional handheld ultrasound (HHUS) is the gold standard for performing the examination.
ABVS represents the newest in advanced technology. Tests are ongoing to isolate all advantages or shortfalls in contrast to standard ultrasound equipment.
In order to optimize the ABVS results there is a wide range of known imaging modes including tissue harmonic imaging (THI) and Advanced SieClear spatial compounding and Dynamic TCE (tissue contrast enhancement) technology, as well as new processing algorithms for nipple shadow and reverberation artifacts that are automatically applied when using the ABVS. The Reverberation Removal Algorithm processes the 3D data and determines whether tissue contact is present and where it is not.
The role of zinc is controversial in some cases, as either the results of published studies provide contradictory information and/or the methodological quality of the studies does not allow for a confident conclusion regarding the role of zinc in the diseases in question
Having said that Zinc is necessary for the functioning of more than 300 different enzymes and plays a vital role in a large number of biological processes. Zinc is a cofactor for the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and is in a number of enzymatic reactions involved in carbohydrate and protein metabolism.
